Birdwatching Notes May 2018

It’s pretty quiet at the moment as the weather is so stable.
Migration has also been quiet.

Shelduck – several pairs seen on the marsh

Gannet – several seen fishing off Needles. These are probably birds from the Channel Isles.

Little Egret – only 2 seen in area; 1 at Hurst; one at Keyhaven. Not breeding.

Oystercatcher – 27 counted […]

Birdwatching Notes February 2018

Brent Goose – very good numbers; 700+ possibly more. One large flock of around 600 on Sturt Pond plus small groups across the patch.

Shelduck – 24 on the marsh west of the river. Possibly more hidden in the creeks.

Wigeon, Teal and Pintail in small numbers.

Eider – usual pair seen in Mount Lake

Birdwatching Notes – January 2018

Brent Goose – approx. 500 birds across the area

Shelduck – around 75 on the marsh

Wigeon – approx. 100 across the marsh

Little Egret – at least 3 in the area

Lapwing – 100+ in the area; most seen on Sturt Pond

Dunlin – 300+ in the estuary but probably more feeding in the creeks.

Ruff – 1 adult seen […]
